student ambassadors 2025-2026

Our extremely popular Student Ambassador Programme is an opportunity for students to collaborate with other students in schools across Ireland.

The Student Ambassadors hear from an impressive array of guest speakers, increase their knowledge and understanding of climate and nature issues, develop invaluable skills and work on a climate action project with their fellow ambassadors.

Who is this Resource for? - Secondary Students. 3rd-6th Year.

In 2025-2026 we had 27 ambassadors from 16 different schools from every corner of the country taking part.

What was the focus for 2025-6?

In 2025/26, we deepned our approach by focusing the programme on “The Green Energy Transition” through the lens of Global Citizenship Education. The aim was to critically examine the systems, ethics, and equity dimensions of energy production and consumption.

Topics students explored included:

  • An introduction into energy production and consumption in Ireland

  • What a “Just Transition” means in practice

  • The social and environmental impact of energy technologies

  • Global supply chains and human rights concerns

  • Fuel poverty in Ireland and globally

  • Community based Energy approaches

Congrats to the 2025-2026 Ambassadors
Congrats to our Student Ambassadors who completed the Student Ambassador Programme 25-26 on March 3rd with a Final Showcase at Airfield.

Their work has been about hands-on engagement and actions:
⚡Each Ambassador ran a sustainable energy workshop in their school before Christmas
✍️The group took collective action by deciding to write a letter to the Minister for the Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien led by Faye Cunningham to gain almost 300 co-signatories
💬4 of the Ambassadors participated in a Student Panel Discussion ‘Are we teaching the skills needed for a changing planet?’: Aisling O'Connor, Amélie Frazer, Doireann Ní Chuilleanáin and Faye Cunningham
🔦In the Final Showcase, each School presented an inspiring overview of further action projects in their school - tackling topics such as waste, water, fast fashion and biodiversity. Well done to Peterina Grealis & Ava Vilarino, David Smith, Aisling O'Connor, Emily Maher & Doireann Ní Chuilleanáin whose presentations on the day stood out for the judges.

In all of this work, the Ambassadors started conversations with their peers, teachers and families. This work was acknowledged by ☘️ Uachtarán na hÉireann Catherine Connolly, who within a day of hearing about it, sent a lovely letter to reaffirm the great work you are doing.

💚This Programme is not only about valuable information, skills and confidence, but also the connections and friendships that the 27 Ambassadors have made with each other across 16 schools all around the country.
